Real skills deserve real recognition

Trades Recognition Australia is supporting the Australian Government’s Real Skills Deserve Real Recognition campaign, helping people understand how to identify quality Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and avoid non-genuine training providers in Australia.

RPL can help turn existing skills and experience into a formal qualification—but only when it is delivered properly. Genuine RPL involves clear guidance, evidence of your skills, and a thorough assessment process. If a provider offers a qualification without proper assessment, it’s not real RPL—it’s a risk to your future.

Choosing the right training and staying safe

Choosing the right provider and understanding the process is important.

A range of information about what quality RPL looks like, including practical, easy-to-understand guidance on how to spot the red flags and identify genuine providers is available at yourcareer.gov.au

Reporting suspicious providers

If you suspect a provider is offering non-genuine qualifications or practices, you should contact the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) by:

  • calling 1300 644 844 (within Australia) or +61 2 5933 2022 (international)
