Trades Recognition Australia is supporting the Australian Government’s Real Skills Deserve Real Recognition campaign, helping people understand how to identify quality Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and avoid non-genuine training providers in Australia.
RPL can help turn existing skills and experience into a formal qualification—but only when it is delivered properly. Genuine RPL involves clear guidance, evidence of your skills, and a thorough assessment process. If a provider offers a qualification without proper assessment, it’s not real RPL—it’s a risk to your future.
Choosing the right training and staying safe
Choosing the right provider and understanding the process is important.
A range of information about what quality RPL looks like, including practical, easy-to-understand guidance on how to spot the red flags and identify genuine providers is available at yourcareer.gov.au.
Reporting suspicious providers
If you suspect a provider is offering non-genuine qualifications or practices, you should contact the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) by:
- calling 1300 644 844 (within Australia) or +61 2 5933 2022 (international)
- reporting a tip-off on the ASQA website.
