457 visa abolition

8 March 2018

On 8 March 2018, the Department of Home Affairs (Home Affairs) abolished the Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457), replacing it with the new Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa.

In line with these changes, Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) has renamed the 457 Skills Assessment Program the ‘TSS Skills Assessment Program’. The program guidelines and resources have been updated to reflect the name change. No other program changes have been made.

Skills assessments commenced/completed under the 457 Skills Assessment Program will still be accepted by Home Affairs for TSS visa applications.

Please note: It is the applicant's responsibility to confirm with Home Affairs that their visa pathway requires a skills assessment, and that TRA is the relevant assessing authority for their nominated occupation before submitting an application.
